Introducing Mountain Bean Coffee

In keeping with our mission to create a company connected to the great outdoors, we’ve crafted a collection of blends that make reference to their inspirations. These blends are the core of what we do, and without them we wouldn’t exist. We hope that you enjoy them all, but that you find one which helps you to feel the way we did when we created them.

  • The Grizz

    The Grizz

Grown organically in Columbia, this extra dark fair trade blend is full-bodied, with a slightly bittersweet caramel aftertaste. Perfect for chargin’ up before a long, hard trek.

  • Backcountry

    Backcountry

Even with its full flavour, and syrupy, smokey heaviness, this Ethiopian French roast manages to retain the acidity for which East African coffees are known.

  • Big Horn

    Big Horn

A high-energy blend from the mountainous Tolima region of Columbia, this limited supply, co-op grown coffee has a fresh, full aroma and smooth, bright flavour.

  • Campfire

    Campfire

The richest decaf you’ll find anywhere – complete with the most well-rounded characteristics of a Sumatran, artfully blended with a smoky and syrupy Colombian.

  • Log Cabin

    Log Cabin

For that cozy rustic feeling, we sourced an organic earthy fair trade Sumatran bean with a typical West Coast flavour profile: full-bodied, spicy, with hints of caramel and chocolate, and a subtle smoky aftertaste.

  • House Blend

    House Blend

To craft a blend that’s reminiscent of Rocky Mountain air, we sourced a full-bodied Costa Rican bean, and introduced a unique Columbian variety to add nutty, wine-like notes.

  • Ridgeline

    Ridgeline

A combination of medium and dark roasted coffees from Colombia and El Salvador, this richly flavoured blend was crafted to maintain a full body without the usual heaviness — topped off with an exquisite caramelized nut aftertaste.

  • Holiday Blend

    Holiday Blend

A Fair Trade blend of organic beans from Bolivia, Guatemala, Ethiopia and Sumatra, this coffee is the perfect accompaniment to a great holiday meal. It is roasted medium-dark to bring out the nutty flavours, and its sweet acidic finish will match any dessert on the table.

The Swiss Water Process

Chemical Free Coffee Decaffeination

The SWISS WATER ® Process is a 100% chemical free coffee decaffeination process that results in a great tasting decaf. The majority of decaf coffee (about 80%) is decaffeinated with a chemical decaffeination method using chemicals like methylene chloride or ethyl acetate to decaffeinate coffee beans. Conversely, the SWISS WATER ® Process uses only water when removing caffeine, producing water-processed decaf coffee.

The SWISS WATER ® Process meets the US Food and Drug Administration decaffeination guideline of 97% caffeine removed, as well as the Canadian/European decaffeination standard of 99.92% caffeine free.

Fair-Trade Organic

Enjoy coffee that you can feel good about

These coffees have been grown by small family farmers without the use of synthetic fertilizers, herbicides, or pesticides. Global Fair Trade groups help organize demographically run co-ops and encourage sustainable coffee growing practices. The rewards are better coffee for you, a better life for coffee farmers, and a positive impact on the environment.

CERTIFIED ORGANIC
Organic products are grown on land that has not been exposed to any prohibited substances (synthetic fertilizers, herbicides, pesticides, growth regulators, and fungicides) for three years prior to certification.
FAIR TRADE CERTIFIED
Fair Trade guarantees a fair minimum price to coffee farmers. This coffee is purchased directly from the farmers themselves, so more of the money you pay ends up in the hands of the people who grew the coffee.
Rain Forest Alliance Certified

Our independent seal of approval ensures that goods and services were produced in compliance with strict guidelines protecting the environment, wildlife, workers and local communities.

Light, medium, dark or decaf?

What's the difference in these roasts?

The roasting process is the most sensitive step in the creation of a fine cup of coffee. Before it is roasted, coffee is simply just another bean. It is in our roasters that the oils of the coffee are brought to the surface, and all of the flavour and aroma is developed. Our coffees are roasted in small batches for 14-16 minutes at temperatures ranging from 175-245°C.

Once the coffee has reached the optimum roast colour, the flame in the roaster is shut off and the coffee is cooled down to stop the cooking process. The coffee is emptied into a cooling drum where it is stirred while cool air flows through it until it has reached a temperature that is optimal for packaging.

The difference between a light and dark roast coffee is a matter of 1-2 minutes of additional roasting. Typically, the best coffees are roasted medium so the full natural flavour of the coffee is developed and it's characteristics remain apparent. The darker the roast, the more charred flavors will begin to mask the natural flavours of the coffee. The difference from a light/medium roasted coffee and dark/French roast, is often likened to the difference between a medium-rare and well done steak. Every coffee at Mountain Bean has a specific flavour so be sure try them all, you may surprise yourself.

4 simple tips for the perfect blend

Whether you’re out in the wilderness, or right at home, here’s how to make the best coffee:

  1. Grind Carefully - image

    Grind Carefully

Grind your coffee to the perfect consistency. Remember, medium grind isn’t used in all coffee makers. Ask our coffee associates to help you select the right grind.

  2. Measure Generously

    Measure Generously

As a rule of thumb, use two tablespoons of ground coffee for every 6 oz of cold water.

  3. Choose the Best Water

    Choose the Best Water

The best water doesn’t come from the tap. If you can’t scoop your water from a mountain spring, put it through a filter.

  4. Store in Airtight Container

    Store in Airtight Container

To enjoy true Mountain Bean coffee at home, coffee should be stored in an airtight container, away from light, heat, and moisture.
